Part 2 of 2
A midsummer visit to the Yorkshire Dales offers spectacular views both above and below the surface of the limestone landscape while to those living there the same features provide wide ranging opportunities for an agricultural lifestyle or for cottage industries.
From colourful wildflower meadows to the bare rock of Malham Cove, Helen Mark's journey in the first programme takes in the almost other worldly limestone pavement of Scar Close on Ingleborough and the mysteries of the Long Churn caves beneath.
In the second programme Helen moves from the dark tranquil world of the Long Churn caves to the bustling actives of local farmers. One surprisingly enough rears Highland Cattle, while for others it's the busiest time of year for shearing and in one village the fleeces of the local sheep have been used to revive the ancient local tradition of knitting even amongst the men.
