A new lifeboat operations manager has been appointed for the island, who the RNLI said had a "deep understanding of the local community".

Richard Evans has taken on the role at St Peter Port lifeboat station after the retirement of Jason Hobbs, who served with "dedication and commitment", according to the charity.

The RNLI said in a statement Evans previously held the position of treasurer where his "financial oversight and support were instrumental in ensuring the station's smooth operation".

It said Evans had "a passion for maritime safety" and, as lifeboat operations manager, he would oversee the day-to-day running of the station.

The RNLI said: "Richard is no stranger to the station, having been closely involved for many years."

It said Evans was a former civil servant who "brings with him a wealth of experience from a distinguished 40-year career in public service".

It added: "His leadership skills, operational knowledge, and deep understanding of the local community will be invaluable as he steps into this new role."

The charity said Evans wanted to thank Hobbs for "his hard work", which he said has left St Peter Port Lifeboat Station "in a very good place".
