Detective asked about missed chances to stop killer
A Suffolk Police detective who led the investigation into serial killer Steve Wright's murder of teenager Victoria Hall has answered accusations the force missed opportunities to catch him sooner.
Victoria, 17, was kidnapped and murdered by Wright after a night out in Felixstowe in September 1999.
The killer - already serving a whole-life term for the murders of five women in Ipswich in 2006 - was given a further life sentence at the Old Bailey on Friday.
During an interview with BBC Look East, Det Supt Phill Gray was repeatedly asked about missed opportunities in the original 1999 investigation.
He said: "What I am sorry about is the fact that the investigative techniques and forensic opportunities that were available to us in 2026 were not available in 1999."
