Archive: Royal Family in snowy Sandringham in 1985

Archive video shows the Royal Family attending a Sunday church service 40 years ago.

A BBC News report from 29 December 1985 said cold weather meant the smallest crowd in 25 years gathered at Sandringham parish church in Norfolk, and that Princess Diana, in a scarlet coat, had "attracted the most attention".

Senior royals were seen smiling outside, where a thick layer of snow had settled. The Queen Mother missed the service with a cold.

They had spent Christmas itself at Windsor.
