Hundreds of homes are still without power, rail services are hit and dozens of schools closed.

A yellow alert snow and ice warning has been issued for Northern Ireland by the Met Office, with icy conditions expected from Friday evening into Saturday morning.

Trains have been cancelled and delayed across the region, as the heavy snowfall begins.

The Met Office says the snow is likely to lead to disruption and dangerous travelling conditions.

There are areas of unstable snow in several locations near the top of Yr Wyddfa, said the Llanberis Mountain Rescue Team.

Both Lincolnshire and Humberside fire services have warned about being careful near frozen lakes.

An ice warning has been issued for Northern Ireland overnight as low temperatures continue.

Large parts of South Yorkshire are covered by an amber weather warning as Storm Goretti arrives.
