Dozens of new council homes will be built at three sites in Hull.

Following planning approval, 42 houses will be built at Campbell Court and Oriel Grove in east Hull and Ellerburn Avenue in the north of the city.

It comes after Hull City Council introduced the Small Sites Programme to tackle the "very significant demand for social housing".

Councillor Paul Drake-Davis said: "It's yet another project which moves us closer to our target of building 840 new council homes by 2031."

The Small Sites Programme, which was approved by councillors in December, aims to build affordable housing on small, underused parcels of land.

According to the Local Democracy Reporting Service, a council report said, in recent years, the number of people presenting as homeless each year had doubled from 2,000 to 4,000.

Meanwhile, it said the number of council housing units becoming available for re-letting each year had fallen from 1,800 to 1,100.

The new council homes will consist of 21 two-bedroom bungalows, 15 two-bedroom houses and six three-bedroom houses.

They will include renewable technologies, such as solar panels and electric vehicle (EV) chargers.

Starship Group will be taking on the development, which is supported by funding from the Brownfield Land Release Fund.

Construction of the 42 new homes is expected to start in summer, with the homes set to be completed in late 2027.
