Weekend closures confirmed for Hull North Bridge
BBCA major bridge in Hull is to close for two weekends for resurfacing work, the council has confirmed.
North Bridge will shut from 06:00 GMT on 21 March until 06:00 23 March and from 06:00 BST on 11 April until 06:00 13 April.
Hull City Council said the work was "to repair areas of deteriorated road surfacing ahead of the additional traffic expected during the upcoming Drypool Bridge closure".
"By completing the repairs now, it will prevent the damaged areas from worsening, which could otherwise lead to an unplanned closure later in the year," the authority added.
The council said North Bridge would be shut in both directions to road users, but pedestrians would still be able to cross.
Traffic diversions will be put in place during the two weekend closures.
Councillor Mark Ieronimo, portfolio holder for transport and infrastructure at Hull City Council, said: "With the increased volume of traffic that will use North Bridge as part of the diversion and designated bus route during the upcoming Drypool Bridge closure, these works are essential to ensure the bridge remains safe and operational.
He added: "We understand the inconvenience these weekend closures will cause and appreciate the public's patience and cooperation while our contractors carry out these vital works."
Drypool Bridge will be fully shut for eight weeks in May as part of a major repair and strengthening programme.
