Work will begin next week on a new toucan crossing in Hull.

The city council said it would be installed on Maybury Road, connecting paths along Holderness Drain.

Councillor Mark Ieronimo, portfolio holder for transport and infrastructure, said: "This new crossing will make it safer for everyone moving around the area and promote healthier travel such as walking and cycling."

The work, due to start on Monday, should be completed by 17 April.

Ieronimo added: "The overall scheme also supports our wider ambition to create more inclusive neighbourhoods and make Hull a healthier, fairer and more environmentally friendly city.

"We would like to thank our residents for their patience and understanding while we carry out these works."
