Footpath closures put in place following the collapse of a cliff have been extended after the original cordon was vandalised.

The significant cliff fall happened at Lower Beach in Barton on Sea, Hampshire, on the 28 December.

New Forest District Council said it had extended the closure of the clifftop from Marine Drive to the path from Barton Common.

It said the section of cliff remained unstable and urged people to stay away.

In a statement, the council said: "We will continue to monitor the situation and are urging people to follow all safety measures when visiting the coast.

"The extended closures are in place due to ongoing vandalism of the safety measures installed to protect public safety.

"Please do not move or climb over any barriers, and take care when visiting any coastline."

The beach between Barton on Sea and Becton Bunny also remains closed.
