A Hampshire holiday park has been reunited with its own history thanks to a chance find on eBay.

A roll of film bearing the name The English Bay of Naples turned out to be a home movie, filmed around Naish Farm, near Barton on Sea, in 1937.

Rosie Kennar, whose great-grandfather established the business that is now the Hoburne Naish Holiday Park, purchased the film while doing research for her archives.

"The people we see in the film are just having a family break, spending time together and it's all simple pleasures," she said.

"You see the boys on the beach making sandcastles and playing with the dog. And all meals on the veranda, just what you'd do today."

The film is believed to have been part of a house clearance and its origin is not known.

The footage, which has now been digitised, includes a visit to the Isle of Wight and Cowes Regatta.

During the trip, the camera operator captured the Queen Mary liner, which had only been in service for a year at the time.

The identity of the family is a mystery Mrs Kennar is keen to solve.

"We don't know who they are. We'd like to find out because it would be fantastic if we could find the family," she said.

"Bit of a needle in a haystack but you never know.

"If we weren't able to find them, we're just terribly grateful to have found this piece of social history."
