The Twin Sails Bridge has reopened to all traffic after a six-month closure

Poole's Twin Sails Bridge has reopened to all traffic after being closed for more than five months.

The lifting bridge, which connects the town centre with Hamworthy, was shut on 26 August after a routine inspection deemed the lifting mechanism unsafe to operate.

A Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole (BCP) Council spokesperson said: "Our team has worked hard, day and night, to implement these repairs and have had to await the arrival of specialist materials to complete the final phases.

"We understand the closure has been frustrating for residents and appreciate their continued patience while we carried out these essential repairs."

The bridge has faced repeated issues since opening in 2012 and, earlier this year, the council approved £6m of funding to deliver a long-term solution.
