Police investigating a death described as "unexplained" have arrested a man on suspicion of murder.

The 44-year-old was taken into custody after a man in his 50s was found in a serious condition in Lakeside Road, Poole, at about 06:45 GMT on Sunday and later died in hospital.

Dorset Police said the arrested man, from Oxfordshire and who was known to the deceased, was initially held on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm.

The force said the death was being treated as unexplained and that the arrest was made to help detectives gather information "while providing legal protection to the individual".

The force said there would be an increased police presence in the area while the investigation continued.
