Rail replacement buses due to £582,000 track work
East Midlands RailwayBuses will replace train services between two cities due to track renewal work, Network Rail has announced.
The replacement buses would be in place on Sunday between Peterborough and Leicester while 300 yards (274m) of track between Melton Mowbray and Syston East Junction in Leicestershire was replaced.
Dan Matthews, Network Rail's operations director, said the work - which would cost £582,000 - was "vital".
There will be also no direct services from Peterborough to London King's Cross over the weekend due to other major engineering works.
"Renewing this section of track is vital to keeping services reliable for passengers travelling across the East Midlands," Matthews said.
"We appreciate the patience of passengers while this work takes place and encourage everyone to plan ahead and check their journeys before travelling."
The work will involve 120 staff, three engineering trains, as well as road-rail vehicles, welders, trolleys, a tamper and hand tools.
Network Rail said other East Midlands Railway services to and from London St Pancras were expected to be busier than usual with the potential for standing room only.
There would be a queuing system in place at London St Pancras and it may not be possible to board your intended service due to how busy it could be, Network Rail added.
