Damage to overhead wires means services will be cancelled or severely delayed, rail staff say

Damage to overhead wires on a railway line caused major disruptions for passengers into Friday evening.

Network Rail said they were damaged between Birmingham New Street and Longbridge with all lines blocked, leading to cancellations and severe delays expected until 18:30 GMT.

Services affected were West Midlands Railway trains between Lichfield Trent Valley and Bromsgrove, Four Oaks and Redditch, and Birmingham New Street and Worcester Shrub Hill and Hereford.

The lines reopened by about 18:30, according to National Rail.
