A man has been arrested on suspicion of the murder of a man who was found unconscious on a street and later died in hospital.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said officers found the unconscious man on Crescent Road in Crumpsall, Manchester, at about 23:50 GMT on Monday.

The force said a man was arrested on suspicion of murder at the scene and remained in custody.

Det Insp Chris Chadderton asked anyone who might have seen anything to contact police.

"This is a tragic incident in which a man has sadly lost his life, and our thoughts are firmly with his loved ones," he said.

"We have a team of detectives working to piece together the events leading up to his death and are continuing to explore all available lines of inquiry."
