A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a woman was found injured in a street.

Norfolk Police was called to Catherine Gardens, Thorpe St Andrew, close to Norwich, at about 23:45 GMT on Saturday and a woman in her 40s was declared dead at the scene.

A man in his 60s was arrested in Dereham Road on Sunday morning and remains in police custody.

A police spokesperson said it was thought the man and woman knew each other.

Officers remain at both locations and Yarmouth Road is expected to be closed for several hours from its junction with Pound Lane to the junction with School Avenue.

Det Supt Stacey Murray said: "We are in the early stages of this investigation, working to establish the sequence of events which led to the woman's death.

"However, we do believe this to be an incident in which both parties are known to each other."

She appealed for anyone with information to get in touch.
