Three men have been charged with attempted murder after a man was stabbed in the leg in a residential street.

Police said the 31-year-old was taken to hospital in a serious, possibly life-threatening, condition after being found injured on Hawthorn Crescent in Cosham, Portsmouth, shortly before 14:30 GMT on Thursday.

He remains in hospital in a stable condition, police said.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary said that following six arrests, three men, two aged 18 and one 19, had been charged. They remain in custody and are due to appear at Portsmouth Magistrates' Court on Monday.

Eighteen-year-olds Arif Ahmadzai, from Southsea, and Abdullah Mirzad, from Portsmouth, have been charged with attempted murder.

Abdul Shinwari, 19, from Southampton, has been charged with attempted murder and possessing an offensive weapon in a public place.

An 18-year-old man from Southampton arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and possessing a knife blade or sharp pointed blade in a public place has been bailed until 13 June, pending further enquiries.

Two men, aged 21 and 29 from Portsmouth, arrested on suspicion of witness intimidation, have been bailed until 12 June, pending further enquiries.
