A new pedestrian crossing is to be installed in Hull as part of efforts to improve road safety near a school.

Hull City Council has confirmed footpath improvements and the zebra crossing for Richmond Lane, Kingswood.

The council said upgrading the existing crossing point at the junction of School Lane would make it safer for residents, including children travelling to and from Kingswood Parks Primary School.

Work is expected to begin on 16 February and is expected to take about two weeks to complete, weather permitting, the authority added.

According to the council, the scheme was part of its ongoing commitment to improve the safety of the city's roads and footpaths, encouraging active travel options.

Councillor Mark Ieronimo, portfolio holder for transport and infrastructure, said: "As a council, we're committed to creating safer, more accessible transport routes for everyone.

"The new zebra crossing and upgraded footpaths on Richmond Lane will make it easier and safer for residents to move around their community, encouraging more people to choose walking as a convenient everyday option.

"We thank the affected residents in advance for their patience and understanding while we carry out these important works."

Letters had been delivered to all residents affected by the works, the council said.
