The Town Hall said the nearest available disabled parking spaces were at People's Park

One disabled space and four residents' parking bays will be removed from a St Helier street following "numerous complaints" about vehicles mounting the pavement, the Town Hall has said.

In a social media post, the parish said vehicles remaining in the spaces, on Lewis Street, after 08:00 on Tuesday 10 February 2026 would be removed at the owner's expense.

It said that work had been undertaken to find compensatory spaces, but "unfortunately an alternative could not be found at this time."

The nearest alternative disabled parking spaces were available 80m (262ft) away, at People's Park, it added.

In response to questions from social media users, the parish said the decision to remove the parking bays had been made by the St Helier Roads Committee "to ensure the safety of both pedestrians and road users".

"The parish wardens will be increasing their patrols of Lewis Street following the suspension of the spaces," it added.

The Town Hall added that if people witnessed "vehicles using access-only roads as cut-throughs" they should be reported to the States of Jersey Community Policing Team.
