The Millennium Bridge will be closed overnight from 2-6 March

A second week of overnight closures of a bridge linking two quaysides in the Isle of Man's capital is set to take place.

The Douglas lifting bridge, which is known as the Millennium Bridge, will be shut between 20:00 and 04:00 GMT from Monday until 6 March.

Both pedestrian and vehicle access to the bridge will be suspended during the work, with diversions in place via the Stone Bridge adjacent to The Tongue.

The work will include barriers being put in place to hold back the water to allow for the inspection of the mechanical aspects of the bridge.

It follows on from similar nightly closures earlier this month to enable a refurbished hydraulic lifting cylinder to be fitted.

The Department of Infrastructure said while the road closure order was in place for five nights, if good progress was made not all of the time would been to be used.
