Funding confirmed for final part of ring road
Lincolnshire County CouncilWork to build the last part of a ring road around Lincoln is set to start after the government confirmed £110m of funding towards the £200m project.
The Department for Transport said work on the North Hykeham Relief Road, which was first proposed in the mid-2000s, was due to begin in March, with a new dual-carriageway built between the A46 and A15.
A government spokesperson said the link road would open up new job opportunities through improved connections to Lincoln, reduce congestion and improve road safety.
Lincolnshire County Council leader Sean Matthews said it was "a huge milestone for the project" which is due to be completed by May 2029.
He said the new road would bring "huge economic benefits when it's finished", including opening up land for 4,500 homes and employment space.
The remaining £90m costs will be funded by the council.
"We've now cleared the final hurdle of getting the final piece of Lincoln's ring road built," Matthews said.
"Now that all funding for the scheme is in place, our focus will be on making sure [contractor] Balfour Beatty is ready to hit the ground running ahead of breaking ground in March."
Roads minister Simon Lightwood said: "Roads are a key link for communities, boosting access to opportunities and jobs, which is why I am delighted to confirm funding for this project."
