Police have dropped an investigation into an alleged assault after a man was injured inside a car travelling on a motorway.

Officers were called to the M4 hard shoulder, between junctions 16 and 17 near Swindon, at 14:30 GMT on Tuesday.

The victim, a passenger inside a grey Vauxhall Astra, suffered serious facial injuries and was taken to hospital. Another man, known to the victim, was later arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm and drink-driving.

Wiltshire Police said the suspect has been released with no further action for the assault arrest and bailed for the drink-driving offence.
