M4 shut in both directions for emergency repairs
Getty ImagesThe M4 has been closed in both directions in Berkshire for emergency works, according to National Highways.
The road is closed between junction 10, near Wokingham, and junction 11, near Reading, after an electricity tower nearby, with lines crossing the motorway, was struck by a fallen tree.
National Highways says the work by Southern Electricity Networks is likely to continue throughout the morning and diversions are in place for traffic travelling in both directions.
A spokesperson for National Highways says the "urgent repair" is needed as strong winds are forecast for the the area on Wednesday evening.
Getty ImagesDrivers travelling westbound are advised to leave the M4 at junction 10 and join the A329(M) towards Reading, while those heading eastbound should exit at junction 11 and follow the B3270 Lower Earley Way.
The National Highways spokesperson added: "There are expected to be long delays also on local roads in the area of the closure."
The latest closure comes a day after the route was shut westbound after a car crash following a police chase, however, National Highways has confirmed that there is no connection between the two road closures.
