The M4 has reopened in both directions after a tree fell on to an electricity pylon and caused travel disruption.

National Highways confirmed the road which was first closed between junction 10, near Wokingham, and junction 11, near Reading, on Wednesday morning, returned to normal just before 06:00 GMT on Thursday.

It thanked drivers for their patience while Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks carried out "complex repairs" dismantling the damaged pylon.

The same section of motorway was shut westbound on Tuesday after a car crash following a police chase, but the two closures were not connected.
