Man seriously injured in M4 car attack
Getty ImagesA man in his 30s has suffered serious facial injuries after an attack inside a car travelling on a motorway.
Police were called to the M4 hard shoulder, between junctions 16 and 17 near Swindon, at 14:30 GMT on Tuesday.
The victim had been a passenger inside a grey Vauxhall Astra when the assault took place, Wiltshire Police confirmed.
Another man, known to the victim, was found nearby with minor facial injuries and taken to hospital. He was later arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm and drink driving and remains in custody.
The victim's injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.
In an update, Wiltshire Police said: "The motorway was closed for enquiries to take place and reopened shortly after.
"We are keen to hear from anyone who witnessed or has dash cam footage of the altercation or the Vauxhall Astra on the M4 to contact us."
