Man jailed for assaulting four in city centre
Lancashire PoliceA man has been jailed and banned from a city centre after assaulting four people - including a police officer and a police community support officer (PCSO).
Stephen Williams, 41, of Heysham Road, Heysham, Lancashire, admitted two counts of assault by beating and two of assault by beating of an emergency worker.
Preston Magistrates' Court heard the assaults on four people, including the two emergency workers, took place in Lancaster on Saturday and Monday.
Williams was jailed for 24 weeks and given a community behaviour order banning him from Lancaster city centre for two years at the hearing on Tuesday.
The court heard Williams punched a man in his 20s after a row outside Greens pub on North Road on Saturday evening, leaving the man with a black eye and a scratch on his face.
On Monday morning he shouted abuse at a woman working in Greggs on Cheapside, before re-entering the store and pushing her.
A police officer and a PCSO went to arrest Williams when they saw him in Market Street later that day.
A Lancashire Police spokesperson said when the officer took hold of Williams, he dragged her against a shop window and caused her to fall over.
He is then said to have lunged towards the PCSO and pushed him in the chest, before he was arrested.
Williams was also ordered to pay a surcharge of £154.
