Old Castletown Road in the White Hoe area was a one-way route for a week

A busy route into Douglas from the south of the Isle of Man has fully reopened after two weeks.

Part of the Old Castletown Road was closed from 9 March and made one-way last week while one of the island's largest wastewater pumping stations was refurbished at White Hoe. The road closure put extra pressure on other routes into the capital at peak times.

Manx Utilities said the road could now reopen two days earlier than planned because concrete had set sufficiently for vehicles to safely pass over.

However, temporary traffic lights on the Old Castletown Road, in the area of Kewaigue Hill, will remain in place.

Manx Utilities said: "To safely progress the Kewaigue wastewater upgrade, a short period of full road closure on Old Castletown Road will still be required.

"Ground conditions identified during excavation mean a temporary full closure is necessary to ensure safe working conditions for the public and construction teams."

That closure has been scheduled from 11 to 12 April, as well as from 18 to 19 April, and single-lane management will continue outside of those periods.

A further three-day period of single-lane traffic management will be required at a later date and access for residents and businesses will be maintained, Manx Utilities said.
