An emergency closure is currently in force on a road in the east of the Isle of Man amid "unforeseen ground conditions" encountered during wastewater update works.

A section of Kewaigue Hill will remain closed until 07:00 GMT on Monday to allow remedial works to take place and to ensure safety.

The Department of Infrastructure (DoI) said the closure, brought about by "unforeseen ground conditions encountered during excavation works," would be in place between the junction of Ellenbrook and the bridge before Kewaigue Primary School.

The work, being undertaken by Manx Utilities, forms part of a wastewater project in the area which will run until May.

Manx Utilities has previously said that project will address health and safety risks associated with Kewaaigue pumping station and reduce operating costs.

While the authority said the emergency closure was needed due to the stability of ground, it confirmed it was progressing with installing pipes over the weekend.
