Sewer repairs that closed a road for six months have been completed.

Evendons Lane in Wokingham, Berkshire, was shut after problems with a sewer were found deep underground by Thames Water in August.

It resulted in residents complaining that diversions took drivers on much longer routes.

The council said the job was "complex" and needed a "carefully planned repair". It said specialist engineers had to be brought in to finish the work after part of the excavation collapsed.

"The final re-lining has now been carried out, ensuring the pipe is stronger than before, and the road opened yesterday," the council said.

The authority acknowledged that the work had "added to existing pressures" on Wokingham's road network.

But it said it should ease once the junction of Molly Millars Lane and Finchampstead Road reopens in March.

The same road was also shut in 2022 after a lorry fell into a sinkhole caused by a collapsed sewer. This resulted in the primary school on the road being temporarily closed.

Thames Water has been contacted for comment.
