Deadline nears for gardens photo competition
Jon BenhamPhotographers are being urged to submit images of plants and gardens before the deadline for an internationally recognised competition.
Birmingham Botanical Gardens is inviting entries for its Flora in Focus award, part of the International Garden Photographer of the Year.
Organisers said the deadline of 27 March was fast approaching and encouraged people of all abilities to take part, from professionals to amateur photographers.
The competition celebrates plant life within the historic gardens, with entrants asked to capture everything from rare species and colourful flowers, to wider landscape views and smaller natural details.
Winning and shortlisted images will go on display in a large outdoor exhibition at the gardens from 13 May to 29 June.
The annual showcase transforms the site into an open air gallery, featuring award winning work from around the world alongside selected local entries.
Organisers said the exhibition had become a highlight of the gardens' events calendar, attracting visitors keen to see some of the best botanical photography.
They added the competition offered a chance for people to explore one of the UK's most significant botanic gardens while developing their photography skills.
To support those entering, the gardens are offering a 20 per cent discount on standard admission tickets booked online before the closing date.
The competition is open to anyone aged over 18, with all images required to have been taken at Birmingham Botanical Gardens.
