A yellow weather warning for rain covering the whole of the South East of England has been issued by the Met Office.

The warning, affecting Kent, Surrey and East and West Sussex, begins at 00:00 GMT on Tuesday evening and runs until midday.

The Met Office said spells of heavy rain are expected overnight through to Tuesday morning, with the worst affected areas likely to see up 50mm (5cm).

Officials warned of possible flooding, power cuts and disruption to transport.

The warning also covers parts of Essex, Berskhire, Oxfordshire and Hampshire, with a separate, longer warning in place for the West and South West of England, as well as parts of Wales.

People in areas prone to flooding are advised to prepare an emergency flood kit.

Additionally, power cuts could be possible and spray and flooding could make driving conditions tricky and some roads could close.

Driving conditions may be affected by spray and/or standing water, leading to longer journey times by car and bus and delays to train services are possible.

There is also a slight chance of cancellations to train and bus services.
