Surface water could have serious impacts on roads and cause travel disruption, the Met Office warns

Heavy rain across the East of England could cause flooding and travel disruption, the Met Office has warned.

A yellow weather warning has been issued by the Met Office for rain between 09:00 and 22:00 GMT on Thursday.

Homes and businesses could flood, public transport could be disrupted and spray and flooding on roads would likely impact journey times, it said.

The weather will affect Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Peterborough, Essex, Hertfordshire, Norfolk, Northamptonshire and Suffolk.

Rain will become heavier and persistent throughout the day and into the evening, it added.

Rain falling on already saturated ground may lead to surface water flooding in some areas, the Met Office added.

It advised anyone whose home was vulnerable to flooding to make a plan and prepare a flood kit.
