Shirt marks 50 years since club's FA Cup win
Southampton Football ClubA football club has released a commemorative shirt to mark 50 years since it achieved FA Cup success.
The new kit will honour Southampton Football Club's 1976 win against Manchester United at Wembley, one of the biggest shocks in the competition's history.
The yellow and blue shirt is a modern remake of the one worn in the game and was designed in collaboration with some of the players from the 1976 squad.
It will be worn by Saints when they take on Doncaster Rovers in the third round of the cup on 10 January.
Southampton Football ClubGreg Baker, chief revenue officer at the club, said: "Our 1976 FA Cup victory remains the greatest achievement in the club's history and this anniversary gives us a unique opportunity to honour the players, supporters, and traditions that define Southampton FC."
The new shirt includes the signatures of the 15 players who featured in the cup campaign as well as manager Lawrie McMenemy.
The club will make 1,976 of the shirts available for fans to buy through the club's retail channels, as well as a small number of green goalkeeper shirts.
Players that featured in the club's 1976 campaign will get a share of 10% of the profits made from the sales.
The commemorative kit marks the start of the club's anniversary celebrations, with a series of events planned throughout the year to celebrate the team's triumph.
The events include a legends game between Southampton and Manchester United.
Southampton Football ClubThe 1976 final was a major upset.
Manchester United were the clear favourites, having finished third in the First Division, while Southampton had come sixth in the second tier.
But Bobby Stokes scored a late goal to give the men's team its first ever major trophy.
A week earlier, Southampton's women had also won the Women's FA Cup final, making the Saints the first club to win both competitions in the same season.
