A dog has died in a flat fire believed to have been caused by a tumble dryer.

Crews were called to the fire at the first-floor property on Sandown Road in Lake, Isle of Wight, at about 15:00 GMT on Tuesday.

Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire & Rescue Service said firefighters wore breathing apparatus and used two hose‑reel jets to bring the blaze under control, before ventilation fans were used to clear the smoke.

The fire service said no-one was injured in the fire, and all the residents from the other neighbouring flats were safely accounted for.

"The fire is believed to have been caused by the tumble dryer," a fire service spokesperson said.
