A 78-year-old woman who died after being hit by a van in a supermarket car park has been named by police, who have also arrested a man.

Margaret Crichton, from Oldham, was struck by the Peugeot Expert while walking back to her car outside Asda on Greenfield Lane in Shaw at about 18:50 GMT on Thursday. She died at the scene.

A 35-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, Greater Manchester Police said.

A force spokesperson said: "We are trying to identify Margaret's family and are appealing to anyone who might know her or the family, who are believed to be in Manchester or Yorkshire, to please get in touch."
