A supermarket has had to close after "adverse weather conditions" damaged the shop, causing a large number of bricks to fall from its frontage.

A section outside of the Asda branch in Hayle, Cornwall, had been cordoned off for safety, the company confirmed. There have been no reports of injuries.

It said: "Due to recent adverse weather conditions, we've had to temporarily close our Hayle Harbour store, and a small area outside has been cordoned off for safety... We will let [customers] know when we're ready to reopen."

Zoe Yelland, who was shopping at the time, said: "I heard this almighty crash, turned my head and all these bricks came down like a cloud of smoke into the car park."

She added: "Where the car park is, the top right corner has just all come down to where the sign is.

"It could be weather-related. It’s very windy out there today.

"I got to my car, heard it and immediately ran back to the store to get the attention of the workers there."

The store was built in 2014.

A yellow rain warning is in place until 09:00 GMT on Tuesday in Devon and Cornwall - the third such warning in the past week.
