Two men have been arrested and bailed over an assault involving an "unknown substance" which left two others seriously injured.

One man was stabbed and another had an "unknown substance" thrown into his eyes as they got into a taxi in Parker Terrace, Ferryhill, at about 10:30 GMT on 17 December, Durham Police said.

The suspects then fled the scene in a black Volvo saloon car which made off in the direction of Dean Bank.

Police arrested two men on suspicion of grievous bodily harm who have been bailed while the investigation continues.

The Durham force asked for anyone who might have seen the car or have CCTV footage between the times of 08.00 and 10.45 to get in touch.
