Crash and flooding causing motorway delays
National HighwaysDrivers are experiencing long rush hour delays after part of the M66 in Greater Manchester was closed following a crash with part of the road flooded near Ramsbottom.
It is shut between Junction 1 and the A56 following a collision, which occurred around 06:15 GMT on the southbound carriageway, but the northbound side was also closed for a short time.
National Highways has warned drivers: "The M66 southbound in Greater Manchester is closed southbound between the A56/A676 (Edenfield) and J1 (Walmersley) due to a multi-vehicle collision and flooding on the carriageway."
It added: "As a result of the collision there is also significant central reservation barrier damage."
It added: "National Highways Traffic Officers and Area Teams are on scene working to clear the flood water.
"The barrier damage will be assessed and repaired once the flood water has cleared."
