Drivers are being urged to factor in the partial closure of a busy junction on the M5 when planning their journeys this weekend.

A bridge at junction 19 of the motorway near Bristol, which links to Portbury Docks and Portishead, is set to undergo repairs.

The south section of the bridge will be closed between 20:00 GMT on Friday and 06:00 on Monday, while the north side of the bridge will be closed over the same times the following week.

The M5 will run as normal, while the staggered closure of the bridge will allow for restricted movements around the junction, National Highways said.

Sean Walsh, National Highways route manager, said: "We appreciate there will be some impacts during this essential renewal work, we thank drivers for their patience and advise people to plan ahead, find alternative routes and allow extra time for their journeys over the two weekends."

More information on the closures and the different phases of the work can be found on the National Highways website.
