Instructor and pupil's 'lucky escape' in hit-and-run

A driving instructor is in hospital and her pupil has suffered whiplash and severe bruising after their car was involved in a hit-and-run crash.

The car was hit by a van driving on the opposite side of road on the A47 Acle Straight, near Great Yarmouth, Norfolk.

According to Nxt Gen driving school, the instructor suffered a spinal fracture.

Business operations manager Claire Wyatt said the pupil was "lucky to escape quite unscathed" and was "doing pretty well".

She said: "I spoke to him that evening after it happened, he is just badly bruised and feeling quite shaken up.

“He wants to get back in the saddle, which is remarkable for him.”

Norfolk Police was called to the crash at 08:16 BST on Thursday and said the occupants of the silver Vauxhall Vivaro van failed to stop at the scene.

The injured driver, who is in her 30s, was taken to the James Paget University Hospital in Gorleston, where she remains.

Police have appealed for dashcam footage and urged any witnesses to contact them.
