Two men have appeared in court charged with supplying MDMA following the death of a 15-year-old girl.

Lilly McCarthy became unwell at a residential address in Hopton, near Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, on Saturday 24 January, and died in hospital later that day.

Kian Lockett, 18, of King Street, Great Yarmouth, and Nathan Laffitte, 19, of no fixed address, appeared before Norwich Crown Court by prison video-link from HMP Norwich, where they remain.

A further hearing is due to take place on 24 April, when the court could be informed whether further charges will be brought. A provisional trial date has been set for 27 July.

Edward Renvoize, prosecuting, said both defendants were charged with supplying a controlled drug and they were not asked to enter pleas.

Renvoize said: "The Crown are giving consideration to whether other charges should appear on the indictment of these two young men, reflecting the death of Lilly McCarthy.

"We're not able to give any indication of whether any such charges will flow or not."

He said prosecutors were waiting for a post-mortem examination and toxicology report.

In a tribute released by police, Lilly's family said: "Our hearts are completely broken. Lilly was a bright, happy and funny girl who made a massive impact on everyone lucky enough to have her in their lives."

"The loss we feel is the most extreme kind of loss that no family should ever have to endure and leaves a hole in our lives that can never be filled."
