Police say the gun was not used to threaten pupils or staff

A 15-year-old boy has been released on bail amid a police investigation into a gun that was brought into a school in Wolverhampton.

Police were called to Moseley Park Academy on Holland Road, Bilston, just after 11:00 GMT on Monday after a firearm was recovered during a search of a bag at the premises.

The gun was seized by police and after being examined by specialist officers was confirmed to be decommissioned – meaning it could not be fired.

The teenager was arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm and released pending further inquiries.

A spokesperson for West Midlands Police said: "We would like to reassure the community that no students or staff were threatened and support is being offered to fellow students who may have been concerned by yesterday's events.

"Our teams, including specialist schools liaison officers, are working closely with the school and with other partners as investigations continue."

The BBC has contacted the school for comment.
