An 83-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of non-recent sexual offences against children at a former remand centre in Bradford.

The man was detained on suspicion of rape, indecent assault and child cruelty in the Keighley area earlier, West Yorkshire Police said.

The investigation follows reports made by two victims reporting cruelty and sexual abuse committed against them when they were children in the 1970s and 1980s and living in Tong Park Remand Home.

Det Ch Insp Vicky Greenbank from West Yorkshire Police said: "This operation forms part of our ongoing commitment to investigate both current and non-recent sexual offences against children."

She added: "Child sexual abuse and exploitation is an abhorrent crime and one which affects some of the most vulnerable people in our society.

"We would urge anyone who has been a victim of sexual abuse, no matter where or when it took place, to report it to the police. You will be listened to, and you will be believed."

A spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police said the suspect remained in custody.
