South West Water said it had established bottled water stations at Martins Cash and Carry and Trethorne Leisure Park in Launceston

A school has been closed and water stations set up in north Cornwall after the drinking water network was damaged.

South West Water (SWW) said a water main in Trebartha was damaged by a third party and customers in Launceston, Tregadillet and surrounding areas experienced a loss of water or low pressure as a consequence.

The firm said it was delivering bottled water to vulnerable customers and had opened two bottled water stations at Martins Cash and Carry and Trethorne Leisure Park in Launceston.

Windmill Hill Academy said its supply was restored on Tuesday but it was discoloured so it closed at 13:20 GMT for safety reasons. It said it would give an update as soon as it had new information.

SWW apologised for the disruption and said it would keep customers updated.

A SWW spokesperson advised customers: "As the water returns, you may notice the water is discoloured. This is normally short-lived following a burst or repairs to our network and is fine to drink.

"Please do not run off any discolouration for now as this will delay the recovery of the network."

They said once the network had been recovered SWW would contact all customers to advise to run their taps until they were clear.

In a post on Facebook, Windmill Hill Academy said: "We hope the water situation will be fully resolved overnight.

"We will update you as soon as we are able to with any further information."
