Two men have been jailed after a member of the public was stabbed during an attempt to prevent shoplifting at a petrol station.

Casey Foster, of St Catherine's Hill, Launceston, Cornwall, and Royston Morgan, of no fixed abode, assaulted a staff member and a customer at Asda Express in Launceston on 2 July 2024, Truro Crown Court heard.

Foster, 22, had pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm with intent and assault, and was sentenced to 45 months in prison.

Devon and Cornwall Police said neither of the victims were severely injured in the attacks which had been captured by CCTV.

Det Con Isle Ferguson said: "Casey Foster and Royston Morgan carried out brutal assaults on two entirely innocent victims – one of whom was simply trying to do his job at a place he should have felt safe.

"The other victim was attempting to prevent a theft taking place.

"Whenever the decision is taken to carry and then brandish a knife, there is a chance of death. Such violence has no place in our society."
