A man has been charged with terrorism offences, Sussex Police have said.

Mohammed Abdulkalik Fadil Alazawi, of Bedford Grove in Eastbourne, is accused of three counts of encouraging people to commit, prepare or instigate acts of terrorism.

It comes after counter-terror officers arrested a man on Friday on suspicion of supporting the so-called Islamic State group as part of an investigation into Islamist terrorism-related social media posts.

"I appreciate arrests of this nature can cause people in the local community to feel unsettled," said Sussex Police Ch Supt Justin Burtensaw.

"There is not believed to be any immediate risk to those in the community, but I would urge anyone who has any concerns to contact police," he continued.

Burtensaw said Sussex Police has been "working closely" with Counter Terrorism Policing South East, which had led the pre-planned operation.

Alazawi has been remanded in custody.

He is set to appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Monday.
