An alleged far-right extremist has denied terrorism charges over claims he downloaded a US Army manual on hand-to-hand combat, a court has heard.

Jack Coulson, 26, is accused of having the fighting guide on a USB stick at his home and on a phone when his parents' address was raided by police on 30 July.

Coulson, who was represented by defence counsel Khateeb Riaz, did not appear on the videolink from HMP Leeds for the hearing at Westminster Magistrates' Court earlier.

Coulson, formerly of Mexborough, South Yorkshire, is accused of two counts of possessing a document containing information of a kind likely to be useful to a person committing or preparing an act of terrorism.

Chief magistrate Paul Goldspring accepted not guilty pleas which were made on Coulson's behalf.

Coulson was ordered to next appear in custody at the Old Bailey on 13 March.

It is alleged the US Army manual was found on a USB stick plugged into Coulson's television at his home, while he is also accused of having far-right "mindset material".

He was arrested after an operation by Counter Terrorism Policing North East.
