Kittens found dumped at park in cardboard box

Three kittens have been found abandoned in a cardboard box in a Lincolnshire park.

Dog-walkers discovered the trio, thought to be about 10 weeks old, in North Hykeham on Friday.

They were handed in to Lincoln Cat Care, which said they had already had people asking to adopt the kittens.

The charity said owners abandoning their pets was becoming a "regular occurrence".

Penny Craig, the charity's coordinator, said the kittens, christened Jerry, Larry and Harry, "couldn't have been there long" because they were in good condition when they were found.

She said: "These three, when they came in, just didn't know where they were. They were suddenly in a box, in some strange person's house, and being suddenly removed from what they thought was their home."

The kittens will be neutered, chipped and given worm medicines before they are put up for adoption.

Ms Craig said the issue of abandoned cats is "a lot worse" this year.

"It's a regular occurrence, and it's been really bad this year," she said.

"We've never previously had to turn away taking cats into care, but we have had to this year I'm afraid because we just haven't got the space."
