Go-ahead for £17m leisure centre revamp

Plans have been approved to revamp a leisure centre into a community hub.
More than £17m will be spent upgrading Goole Leisure Centre in East Yorkshire.
Plans include a new bowling alley and learners' pool plus moving the town's library to the site.
The leisure centre has closed to the public and is expected to reopen in summer 2025.
Councillor Nick Coultish described the forthcoming centre as "a wonderful new facility for the town".
“We recognise the inconvenience that will be caused by the lengthy closure of East Riding Leisure Goole but we promise that the wait will be worth it," he said.
The works will add a health suite to the site while its sports hall will be retained.
A six-lane bowling alley, a tag play area and a sensory area will also be added, along with a new atrium.
There is also room for a squash court but it will not be installed during the current works due to a lack of funding.

The centre’s gym and exercise classes will move to the former Goole College building.
“A whole range of alternative arrangements are in place during the closure period. We continue to work hard to ensure the best possible alternatives are made available," Mr Coultish said.
“We will also communicate with residents and customers throughout the process.”
