Police say they do not yet know whether thefts of two cash machines from supermarkets in Staffordshire are linked.

Officers were exploring all possibilities following incidents this month at stores in Leek and Kidsgrove, the Staffordshire force said.

At Asda on Springfield Road in Leek, a cash machine was removed using a telehandler in the early hours of Thursday.

On 9 January, a Co-op store on Cedar Avenue in Kidsgrove was left badly damaged in a similar incident.

"It is unknown at this time if these incidents are linked but we are exploring all possibilities and lines of inquiry," a spokesperson for Staffordshire Police said.

After the events in Leek on Thursday, two Nissan pickup trucks were found burnt out on Tongue Lane in Brown Edge.

Police have urged anyone with information or video footage of either incident to contact them.
